SABER is an all-volunteer effort and we need your help. Your contribution can be as simple as helping to fill in some information in existing listings (for example Tim Slater's dissertation reference in the Diss. Abs Int.). You can send us an annotation for one of your recent articles; You can scan a recent journal and send us relevnat annotations; or, you can adopt a journal and regularly survey it for relevant astronomy education articles.
Annotations for SABER are limited to astronomy and space science educational research topics. The annotation must include the study focus and primary results of the research (note: primary results are essential!)
We are specifically looking for quantitative or qualitative research articles describing common learning difficulties and instructional issues in K-12 students, undergraduates (non-majors and majors), graduates, teachers, and the general public. We are specifically NOT pursuing descriptions of summer programs or novel teaching ideas that are not supported with quantitative or qualitative research data. This has already been cataloged comprehensively elsewhere.
If you are interested in helping out in this astronomy and space science education project:
Annotations should follow the following format:
Author list: last name, initials and last name, initials, year.
Title in lower case, Journal Name, volume (number), starting-ending pages.
A brief, (roughly) 50-word description that describes the population studied and the general topic area and results as appropriate.EXAMPLE
Zeilik, M., Schau, C., and Mattern, N. (1999).
"Conceptual astronomy. II. Replicating conceptual gains, probing attitude changes across three semesters," Am. J. Phys., 67 (10), 923-927.
Survey of 400 undergraduates in one-semester course shows gains in conceptual understanding. No relationship between course achievement and prior science and math courses. Small relationship between self-image and course achievement.
Mail completed annotations in text format to Dave Bruning at david.bruning@uwp.edu. OR you may use this web form. Contact Dave about other formats if you need to use another format.
